Officer quality privately purchased liners after 1880 have a fine calf skin sweatband coupled with a silk skull cap. This pattern of liner afforded the greatest comfort and was often the only upgrade a soldier would purchase when buying his own Pickelhaube. On Pickelhauben made from fiber rather than leather as in this example, there is usually a felt covering applied to the interior, usually black or burgundy.
The liner on this example is in amazing condition. | | |
