Canvas Completed As you can see in this photo, the silk paper sucked down onto the front of the railings and scalloped along the top, looking very much like canvas. Overall, it turned out very well.

Ladders I feel privileged that I am one of the first to use the new Seitenteile für Leiter ca. 135mm (ladder strips) from PLM Marinedetails on my SMS Pommern. Old photo-etched ladders were completely incorrect, in that they are flat. An actual ladder, is three-dimensional with flat vertical sides facing outward with round rungs. I was (typically) complaining about the poor quality of PE ladders, so to address this problem, PLM Marinedetails made these superb photo-etched ladder strips.

Making a Ladder The Seitenteile für Leiter ca. 135mm (ladder strips) were laid into a piece of balsa with two parallel cuts, 4 mm apart. The strips lay in the groove just enough so that the holes are exposed. I checked the gap, and checked period photos of SMS Pommern, and for a 1:100 scale sailor, I determined that a rung in every second hole would be perfect. I straightened 0.4 mm (26 gauge) copper wire and cut it into short lengths of around 6 or 7mm which was inserted every second hole.
