The Chevaulegers (Mounted Rifles)
This page lists all Chevaulegers Regiments of the kingdom of Bayern (Bavaria). Although the cut was similar to an Ulanka, the Chevaulegers uniform was called a Waffenrock and carried Swedish cuffs. Like Bayern Ulanka, the Chevaulegers Waffenrock was only piped on the front opening; not on the false side of the double breast. It was Stahlgrun (dark steel-green) with the collar, cuffs, shoulder straps, and piping in the regimental color. Men wore cloth shoulder straps while officer's wore boards or epaulettes. Numbers or cyphers were not used. All Regiments wore a Bayern cavalry pattern leather Pickelhaube with silver or gilt fittings. The chart below lists the regiment and garrison, collar, cuff, and piping color, and details of the helmet Wappen (front plate). A color plate for Bayern cavalry is provided in a link at the top of this page which will open in a new window.
