Disaster
Micro Mask "claims" that after painting, it would peel off with ease but this is an out-right lie. Micro Mask is a terrible product which ruined the paint job on the decks. It adhered to the deck in some areas and when it did come off, it peeled off in tiny pieces forcing me to pick at it for hours. Plus, air bubbles which formed when drying allowed grey paint to get to the deck.

This lousy product added a week's worth of work and ruined the paint job forcing me to do it again. If I knew where the factory was, I would burn it to the ground.
Damage Control
My first thought was to smash it all with an ax, but like always, within the hour I was fixing the damage. After days of picking off the garbage Micro Mask, all the grey which leaked through had to be rubbed off with thinner which removed the semi-gloss of the decks and much of the brass edging decals. Lucky me. So, the entire deck was wet-sanded several times, sections repainted, and brass decals repaired or replaced.
Victory
After a week of working every day, often for 8 or more hours a day, the deck was saved. It was re-coated in gloss and then coated in semi-gloss and I was back to where I was. Afterwards, black gloss decal sheet was cut into 2mm strips and laid around the entire bottom circumference to simulate this black edging on the original ship.

Final Details
Now came the final detailing, such as adding the black decal strips to the bottom of the structures and the twin red Schornsteinringe (Funnel Rings) which designate Pommern as the second ship in the Second Battle Squadron of the High Seas Fleet.

Finally, after almost a year, all the parts were assembled and glued in place in less than 30 minutes. Are you ready to see what it looks like? Please remember this entire Aufbau (superstructure) is completely scratch-built with no purchased parts with the exception of Peter's photo-etched details. Click next to see how it turned out......
