The Wrong Doors When I originally made the basic Aufbau (superstructure) back in in September 2006 (Part IV) I had used PLM Marinedetails' doors with three hinges. Sometime after, Friedrich Prinz sent me some stills (photos) of a short video on Pommern that was shown in Germany on Spiegel TV.
This amazing footage of the aft part of the Aufbau looking forward towards the bow shows clearly that Pommern had water-tight doors on the Aufbau. So the doors I had used were incorrect. Go figure.....

The Correct Doors Fortunately, at the time I was reworking the Aufbau (superstructure) PLM Marinedetails came out with (naturally) superb water-tight doors in starboard and port versions. I asked Peter "how do you say water-tight doors in German" and he replied that the 'official' name was probably some painful Marine nomenclature like: "Tür, Stahlblech, wasser- und gasdicht, mit 8 handbedienten Vorreibern, beidseitig verriegelbar, Anschlag DIN rechts, Öffnungsmaß __ mm x __ mm" Nice to see Navies have not changed! Or, he added, they could have simply been "wasserdichte Tür". Here they are assembled and painted.

Repainting the Aufbau With all of the canvas on and the new doors and damage from re-working, the Aufbau (superstructure) had to be repainted. What was most important here, was to ensure that no paint got on the boat decks as that would ruin the dark red linoleum.
Unfortunately, the portholes were already installed when I completed the hull as I had (typically) gotten ahead of myself. I fixed this by rolling up small pieces of putty into tiny balls and squishing them onto the portholes which covered them for painting.
