Funnel Deck Air Vents Done
In this photo is one of the two air vents. It needs some putty obviously and subsequent sanding and painting of course, but I was pleased with the result. You can see how awkward these were, they are mounted to the funnel deck at 90°. Then they angle off at 40°. Then they go vertical again for the air scoop. Naturally, they are opposites; one angles to the port, the other to the starboard.

Seiltrommeln (Hawser Reels) I am not entirely sure what the Seiltrommeln (Hawser Reels) were for, but period photos show them on the boat deck between the two fore 8,8 cm guns. I use the new PLM Marinedetails Seiltrommeln photo-etched parts which requires cutting a tube of brass and soldering it between the two wheels. The pencil is to give you an idea of how small these are; they are tiny but turned out beautifully. The quality of the parts from PLM Marinedetails astounds me. They are superb.

In February 2009 I started the completion of the Aufbau (superstructure). I thought I could have it done in two months, but had no idea it was going to be such a huge job. The "plan" was to have it done by the end of March but despite working on it like a man-possessed almost daily, the months ticked by until I finally had it done in Dec of 2009. There was so much to build, that I have not covered many parts that I had to make, such as the coal winches, funnel deck lights, storage cages between the 8,8 guns, and countless things I found wrong and had to fix.
