Joggling
The planks that butted into the header planks along the outside edges were joggled where they met on the inside. Many ship modelers choose not to do this as it is too difficult, but I could not resist.

This photo of a Deckoffizier was taken on Pommern. On the lower right you can see the joggled planks as they meet the header planks. You can also see the water gutter along the edge.

Joggling the Planks
Each deck plank end and header plank had to be cut to fit with a clean hobby blade. This was quite difficult and took weeks, but the effect was worth it.

The Inside Edges
On the outside edges of the Aufbau (superstructure) and 28cm turrets and other deck structures, there were also header planks. Rather than plank around these structures, I cut a piece of veneer to fit under the structures so an appropriate width would show. The header plank around the Aufbau appears to be very wide in the photo, but only 3mm will show once the Aufbau is laid on place.
