The Funnel Height
When the five ships of the Deutschland class were constructed, all three funnels were identical. Here is very early M.L. Carstens postcard of SMS Deutschland under steam. Note all three funnels are the same height, top and bottom.

From 1909 to 1910 all five ships underwent modernization at the Kaiserliche Werft Kiel. The shroud on the front funnel was increased 2 meters in height. Ships that had searchlights on the end of the crane decks had these removed. All ships had searchlight platforms added to the sides of the front funnels. Radio equipment was also installed during this retrofit.
The Post 1909 Deutschland Class
Here is a another M.L. Carstens postcard of SMS Schleswig-Holstein after 1909. Note the bottom half of the front funnel has been raised considerably and that the searchlights have been moved from the crane platforms to the sides of the front funnel.

Cutting to Height
Rather than make four moulds, I had built the top and bottom funnel masters in the longest length. It was then a simple matter for me to cut one top for the front funnel and cut two bottoms for the middle and rear funnels. These were cut with ease on the Proxon table saw.
