Unique to Pommern I noted that on Pommern, there was a thin extra layer of steel plate around the top of the funnel, so thin plastic sheet was wrapped around the top of the upper funnel half and a lip was added to the top to replicate photos of the originals. Here are the upper and lower half masters of the funnels. The wooden plugs have been reinserted back into the veneer master funnels for the next steps.

Funnel Rings I decided to drill all the holes for the funnel rings so all the funnels would be identical. Here I am marking the locations for the lower half of the funnel master. A pencil stuck into a hole drilled in a block of wood is not a high-tech tool, but it works. Afterwards, all the holes were marked out and drilled for the rings.

Funnel Ladders For the ladders/steps on the funnels, I was going to use photo-etched parts made by my friend Peter Lienau. Peter had thoughtfully included a template for the funnel ladders to match his steps which made drilling the holes painless. This was a brilliant tool and the holes were all perfectly aligned. |
