Schichau, Danzig Laid down: 1905 Launched: 28 May 1906 Completed: 05 May 1908 Ship's History: She fought as part of IV Geschwader at the battle of Jutland (Skagerak) on 31 May to 01 June 1916. During the night action of 01 June 1916, immediately after the SMS Pommern was sunk by torpedoes fired by a British destroyer HMS Onslaught, the SMS Schlesien engaged several of the British destroyers with her 17cm guns. The effect of this fire is not known. After this period she served as an exercise ship and then as a cadet training ship in 1918. The Schlesien was completely retrofitted in 1927/28 and fitted with two funnels. She served in German Navy through the second world war. On 04 May 1945, after having been struck by mines and bombs, she was scuttled off Swinemünde. | ||
