Drilling Portholes
To ensure all the portholes were on an identical plane, I clamped a metal ruler to the Plexiglas and marked the spots against the metal edge. I used the SMS Deutschland drawings to plot these portholes; a decision that would have unpleasant consequences as you will see later on.

Assembling the Box
The Fore (front) & Aft (back) 17cm gun positions were made at the same time as I made the hull positions, so those were glued and screwed onto the box shape which made up the lower boat deck. Note that the brass angled-strip for deck edging, identical to that on the hull, has been placed on top to check the positions. These were glued on later.

Fitting the Boat Deck
The boat deck itself was cut from 2mm styrene plastic sheet. Note that the openings for the stairs to the lower decks have already been cut out.
