| Deutschland Klasse The Deutschland Klasse all had rounded Fore & Aft sections of slightly different shapes. The Deutschland and Hannover had twin decks on the Aft section, while Pommern, Schlesien, and Schleswig-Holstein only carried a single deck Aft.
Note how in this photo there are upper portholes on Deutschland's second deck while on Pommern there are only port holes on the single lower deck.

Moulding the Fore and Aft I decided that because of the unusual shape, Plexiglas would be the best
material to form the Fore & Aft ends of the Aufbau. After some thought (days actually) I decided to carve both sections from soft wood, smaller by the thickness of the Plexiglas. The "form" was wrapped in aluminum foil, a strip of Plexiglas was cut to the correct width was then placed on top with a steel weight to keep that area flat, and then the "form" was heated in the oven. Here you can see the once-straight Plexiglas is starting to droop down.

Success! Cooling after the Oven After several unsuccessful attempts where the Plexiglas burned (and once
where it caught fire!), I managed to get the temperature correct and they formed perfectly. I was amazed that it had actually worked.
