Shields I have looked at resin kits for 8,8 Geschützen and the shields on these kit were rather flat on the front with a straight top, and just a slight rounded edge on the top and sides. However, photos show that the shield had quite a deep curve to the shape as it arched around the gun, and it curved slightly from the front to the back. It was only flat along the back top edge. there were also vision slits, and hinges for the front armour plate to be flipped up. Over all, it could not have been more complicated. But when has Pommern ever been easy?

Cutting the Shields Brass sheet was cut on my beloved Proxxon to obtain a rectangle for the gun shield that was 23mm X 17mm. Anticipating at least one mistake, I cut one extra shield. I should have cut an extra dozen...... Once cut, I made a jig and a template so that all the shields would be identical. The rectangle was held in the jig and the front sanded down to match the template with my Hobby tool.

Vision Slits
The same jig was used to drill a small hole in the center for the barrels, which were all then enlarged with a file. I really had to take my time on these, as if a hole got too large, that shield was ruined. Sure enough, my one spare was consumed in this process. I now only had ten, and I needed ten.
For the vision slits in the shield for the gun sights, I carefully ran each side through the Proxxon until the blade hit the mark so both sides would be identical.
