The VTH Plans
As these were the only plans I was able to find, I had no choice but to proceed with them. The theory was that I could make the hull with the plans and then make the upper structures from other sources. The VTH plans seemed (at the time) to be reasonable quality but I was amazed to discover that there were no instructions on how to actually build it. Just a set of line drawings. How was I supposed to turn these into a model?

Plans Preparation
To make the plans easier to follow, I drew the station locations straight through the top and side views. This made placement of the stations in relation to the hull somewhat easier for me to understand. As I mentioned previously, the plans came with no instructions so I needed to make it as clear as possible what I needed to do so I could figure out how to do it.

Station Templates
"Plank on frame" seemed to be the standard for building a hull, so this is what I decided to do. I thought the frames were called "bulkheads" but they seem to be referred to as "hull stations" so this is what I will call them. The sheet for the hull station templates was reduced to 96% of its original size to account for the thickness of the planks I planned on using.

Carefully......
Abundant copies were made of this reduced sheet for each station. Each sheet was folded in half and carefully cut out. A poor job in this stage could have serious consequences for the shape of the hull later. Each paper template for the hull station is folded in half to ensure symmetry. This was done with great care, as careless folding and cutting will determine the shape of the ship in the end.
