Test Fit
For each porthole, I used a piece of the brass 5/32 tubing to see if it was too tight. As it turned out, every single one was too tight, from primer and paint etc.

Each hole was sanded with a round file, checked again with the brass 5/32 tubing, sanded, checked, until the tube would slide in.

Applying Paint
Rather than use glue, I used a trick my friend Friedhelm Wahl told me about; he suggested using paint, as that would hold the portholes in, and hide some of the tiny chips to the paint around the hole which resulted from the filing.
