Ankerspill
As is my habit, I started with the most complicated parts first. On the bow were two very complicated Ankerspill, called a windlass in English. The windlass was a rotating drum device used for hauling line or chain to raise and lower an anchor. The anchor chain comes up out of the chain locker from the hole to the front of the windlass, circles the base and then goes forward to the bow on the chain race which was raised area of hardwood that the chain would ride on.

This wonderful photo of two officers on Schleswig-Holstein sitting on the Verholspill (double barrel capstan) used for handling heavy lines or cables, shows the Ankerspill (windlass) on the right.

Ankerspill in Resin
Here are two of the three Ankerspill (windlass) made from resin. These were complicated castings, so I made them in seven parts; the bottom drum where the chain loops around, the centre drum, a large round part with the openings, a thin brass washer on top, a flared washer above that, the photo-etched hand wheels (bought these) and finally a pin to hold the wheel on.

Poller
On the deck were Poller which are called double bitt in English. These were used to tie up the ship along dock side with lines. This photo on Deutschland show that there were two different sizes of double bitt.
